"18 summers", the emotional viral letter of a grandmother that makes us reflect on the transience of time

In parenting there is a phrase that perfectly summarizes the feeling of many parents: "the days are long, but the years are very short". Surely on more than one occasion we had the feeling that time escapes between our fingers, and that our children grow up too fast.

But I've always thought that if parents get to feel this, what won't a grandfather feel ?! And I can not imagine the clash of reality that should mean remembering that baby you held yesterday, become an independent adult today and with their own children.

And it is precisely this reflection that is collected in the "18 summers" letter, written by a grandmother named Isabel and reproduced, with permission, by Jaio, author of the blog "Beyond pink or blue". Impossible not to read it with a lump in the throat!

A letter that invites reflection

Jaio tells in his social networks that last year Isabel sent him the letter, entitled "18 summers". In her I reflected on the transience of time and the importance of living the moment. Jaio read it excitedly, and although he decided to share it then with his followers, yesterday he recovered it to publish it again, because as she affirms, the message is absolutely inspiring.

18 summers You can count them on the fingers and toes. With luck, because today they fly very soon from the nest. Then, instead of waiting for the minute to sit in the quiet towel or open your book, you will be anxiously waiting for the moment when you no longer have to sit on the towel or reading, because the phone rings or a message arrives . It is your daughter to tell you how her summer is going, what she is doing and when they come to be with you. Or to let you know that grandchildren are coming. Be reading or lying on the towel, waiting for the phone to ring it will seem that time does not pass. Waiting for the phone to ring or the message arrives will seem like an eternity, and you will remember the 18 summers (hopefully) when you waited for the minute to lay on the towel or read a bit. 18 summers Hopefully. Now they may seem like an eternity but I assure you that they will happen in the blink of an eye. Remember these days when you are with them on the beach or on vacation. When they call you again "mamaaaa" and think 'once more and give me the patatús'. Or when they claim you to go to the water or play and you think 'I want a minute to lie on the beach'. 18 summers Hopefully. Enjoy them a lot, they are unique. Those who come later will miss them and think about how it could happen so quickly. With love, a grandmother - This "letter" came to me last year, in a message from "a grandmother", and I read it with a lump in my throat, to end my eyes moistened at the end. I was forgotten about her but today you started to share it again for FB and I have reread it. It has come back to ♥ ️ as the first time I read it; a fat 'zasca' of reality that sometimes we forget. In case someone else inspires you again, I share it here again. Isabel, thanks again, with all my heart, for your love and message. I am sure that your granddaughters are looking forward to arriving at your summer home and not letting you read:)… #reflections #madresreales #eltiempovuela #disfruta #padresehijos

The letter says like this:

18 summers You can count them on the fingers and toes. With luck, because today they fly very soon from the nest.

Then, instead of waiting for the minute to sit in the quiet towel or open your book, you will be anxiously waiting for the moment when you no longer have to sit on the towel or reading, because the phone rings or a message arrives.

It is your daughter to tell you how her summer is going, what she is doing and when they come to be with you. Or to let you know that grandchildren are coming.

Be reading or lying on the towel, waiting for the phone to ring it will seem that time does not pass. Waiting for the phone to ring or the message arrives will seem like an eternity, and you will remember the 18 summers (hopefully) in which you waited for the minute in which to lay on the towel or read a little.

18 summers Hopefully. Now they may seem like an eternity but I assure you that they will happen in the blink of an eye. Remember these days when you are with them on the beach or on vacation.

When they call you again "mamaaaa" and think "once more and give me the patatús". Or when they claim you to go to the water or play, and you think "I want a minute to lie on the beach." 18 summers Hopefully.

Enjoy them a lot, they are unique. Those who come later will miss them and think about how it could happen so quickly. With love, a grandmother

In Babies and more Grandparents Day: Thank you parents, for the love they give our children and be the best grandparents they can have

Your children will stop being little one day

Surely we have all heard that "take advantage of everything you can, that children grow very fast". This is so, despite the fact that at the beginning, the upbringing can be so exhausting that it seems that the days never end.

In Babies and more "When did you grow up so much, baby?"

But before we want to realize our children will have grown up and stop wanting to play with us, to shake hands when we walk down the street, to dance together, to sing their favorite songs in full lungs ... and even spend time at our side. They will have grown older and, logically, they will want to live their own life.

It is common for the daily maelstrom to make us feel guilty for not spending enough time with our children, but the really important thing is to seize the moment, live it with the five senses and build magical memories with them, those that Time never dares to erase.
