Enroll the children of a large family in the same center and educate the premature in a lower course: the new proposals for Education

Nowadays being a large family is not easy due to the lack of conciliation and access to many resources. One of them is usually education due to the lack of places, for example, something that disrupts family logistics and ends with separated siblings in different centers and parents who spend the day running from one place to another to arrive on time to take them to school To all your children. Just reading it seems exhausting, doesn't it?

Well, this Tuesday it seems that we have advanced a step in this area thanks to the announcement of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports (MECD) who has reported that It will facilitate the enrollment in the same center of the children of large families and that premature children can be enrolled in a lower course. For now, this will only be possible in Ceuta and Melilla, which is where the MECD has competence, but proposes that these measures be taken by the rest of the Autonomous Communities.

All the brothers in the same center

The reform aims to offer, in the case of large families, the possibility of school all the brothers in the same center thanks to the modification of Order ECD / 724/2015, of April 22, which regulates the admission of students in public and private schools that offer the second cycle of Infant Education (three to five years), Primary Education ( from six to eleven years), Secondary Education (from twelve to sixteen years old) and Baccalaureate (from sixteen to eighteen years old) in that autonomous community.

The Spanish Federation of Large Families satisfied

The Spanish Federation of Large Families (FEFN) met with representatives of the Ministry last December to raise this problem, asking for flexibility and attention to the damage caused to a family having to go to take them and pick them up in different centers.

That is why this news has been celebrated with great enthusiasm in the FEFN, thanking them for having responded to their demand so quickly. This measure is a commitment to the reconciliation of family and work life and family grouping, benefiting the education and training of siblings.

"We consider the application of this measure fair because, on numerous occasions, these families are harmed by having to enroll their children in different schools, with the consequent family disorder that entails."

Parents with premature children may apply for admission in a lower course

Another novelty affects the parents of premature children, whose early birth may affect their maturation and learning process.

For example, we all know that all children born the same year, regardless of whether it is in January or December, would start the same school year. If this often causes large learning differences between children that can really take up to eleven months, imagine what could happen with premature children?

For this reason, in cases where the birth occurs in the year prior to the one planned for its term birth and it is considered that it may affect a possible school evolution, parents may request admission in a lower course than the one corresponding to them. by age, making their schooling more flexible and strengthening their socioeducational integration.

Current benefits in education for large families

Currently large families can take advantage of certain benefits in tax matters, housing, transportation ... but and in education? The first thing you should know is that it is essential to have in force the large family card issued by the autonomous communities and some municipalities to benefit from aid such as:

  • Preference in the access to scholarships and admission processes: points are awarded or the income level is raised to this type of families.

  • 50% discount, in the case of large families of general category (three or four children) or total exemption for the special category (five or more children) in public rates and prices in the field of education: exam fees or tuition fees.

Now we just have to wait for this measure to be applied to all the autonomous communities to improve the access of these groups to education.
