WHO posters for World Breastfeeding Week

On the occasion of the World Breastfeeding Week that has just started, WHO gives its support every year and this time has developed new posters to help mothers and spread the benefits of breastfeeding.

These are striking posters to support breastfeeding at various times: before the baby is born, after birth and when he returns home.

Recall that WHO recommends breastfeeding as an exclusive mode of feeding during the six months following birth; thereafter it is recommended to continue breastfeeding until at least two years, properly supplemented with other appropriate foods.

WHO posters prepared for the World Breastfeeding Week They emphasize the role of health professionals as a pillar of help to mothers, at different times.

Before your son is born

The healthcare professional will be there to:

  • Talk about how you plan to feed your child.
  • Explain the benefits of breastfeeding for you and your child.
  • Support you to try again if you did not breastfeed your previous child.

Finally, they remind us that most women can breastfeed their children if they have adequate support.

When your son is born

The healthcare professional will be there to:

  • Encourage you to put your child in skin-to-skin contact with you shortly after birth.
  • Help you recognize the signs that your child is ready to breastfeed.
  • Show you how I will breastfeed.

In addition, it reminds us that milk production will be stimulated if you sleep near your child and breastfeed on demand.

When you come home

The healthcare professional will be there to:

  • Give you confidence and support to continue breastfeeding.
  • Confirm that breast milk is all your child needs to grow healthy in the first six months of life.
  • Help you solve problems and doubts, so that breastfeeding is a positive experience.

Finally, they point out that breastfeeding is natural, but it may take some time to learn how to do it, and the continued support of healthcare professionals or other mothers will be helpful.

From the WHO website you can see all posters supporting World Breastfeeding Week, also those that were published on the occasion of the 2013 campaign. We hope that they serve so that more people, more mothers, more professionals know the importance of breastfeeding and adequate support.
