Small hearts remind us that February 14 is the International Day of Congenital Heart Disease

February 14 is the International Day of Congenital Heart Disease, a heart defect that annually affects eight out of every thousand children born alive worldwide. In Spain, it means 4,000 more affected babies every year. The Menudos Corazones Foundation has been working for a decade to improve the quality of life of these children and also that of their families.

The goal of this day is to recognize patients and their families for the daily problems they face. According to the Director of the Foundation, Amaya Sáez, medical advances have made 85% of these children reach adulthood, thanks to prenatal diagnosis and subsequent treatments that are becoming more precise and less aggressive. In the 80s, survival did not exceed 20%.

And since congenital heart disease is unknown since Small Hearts present us a video to raise awareness about them. It is the video that illustrates the article and perfectly explains what little kids and parents face.

So since Menudos Corazones have created the motto Mobilize your heart: 14F and initiatives promoted by members of the foundation and their families, volunteers and collaborating entities will be developed. The planned activities range from sensitization talks in educational or labor centers to wearing the NGO shirt, through the dissemination of testimonies of affected people or the organization of charitable acts.

They also inform us that Small Hearts celebrates ten years of work in favor of the integral development and improvement of the quality of life of children and adolescents with heart problems. As you can see in the video they offer fundamental assistance programs such as psychological care, shelters for families that travel to Madrid for medical reasons or accompaniment and play-educational game in hospitals, among others.

IKEA also collaborates with Menudos Corazones and begins the second year of collaboration with them through which the company will donate one euro for each healthy children's menu sold in its restaurants. Also the Top Rank company, under its EnRacha brand, begins its support for the foundation by hosting its 10th anniversary gala in addition to the promotion of beneficial bingos.
