The sounds of the animals of the Macaulay collection available to all schools

The Macaulay collection offers so free the biggest sound library (and also many videos) of the animals of the world. Is about 150,000 audio files which are available on the Internet to be heard, downloaded or embedded in web pages. The texts are in English and a search engine is included, by animal species, to listen to a lot of animals. As you can read on their page, the collection has taken 12 years of work in which technicians have digitized and archived the sounds of 9,000 animal species which have been obtained in 7,500 hours of recordings.

Macaulay's challenge is to digitize and store these recordings to understand our planet and especially to preserve it even with sounds. For teachers in the classroom they are a challenge because they can use the content and turn it into learning opportunities for their students.

The Macaulay library includes sounds of 75% of the world's birds which is also completed with other sounds like insects, fish, frogs and mammals. In addition, videos that add more than 50,000 and that represent 3,500 species of the world are being included.

For the scientists of Cornell Ornithology Laboratory The challenge has always been to document the behavior of birds. With current technological capabilities they have been able to capture and above all store, to know and document animal behavior and natural history.

We invite you to take a look at the page and discover contents among all the archives of the Library. For those children who have a fondness for animals This file can be fascinating to know details of your favorite species and especially their sounds.
