Become the elliot character in the E.T. It was hard to get it from Henry Thomas. As you can see in the video, the boy made an extraordinary representation of the facts that were being told. All were problems and twists to the situation explained by the narrator and Henry rebels against them with a simple speech and especially, with an emotion that fascinated Steven Spielberg.
In the audio one hears, in English, that the director asks him to improvise a scene in which a NASA agent, representative of the United States government, is looking for an alien that he has kept in his closet and his task is to convince him of not taking it. And is that the great director ends the casting saying the magic words: "OK, kid, you got the job!" (Perfect young man, you have the job!)
It seems to me that the video has been leaked as an advance before 30th anniversary of the movie E.T. which, as we mentioned, will be published on Blu-Ray soon.
Henry Thomas was 9 years old at the time of casting and it is impossible not to get excited at his sadness, his convincing tears and his feeling of real pain. Antonio Toca says that to prepare for the test he thought they could take his dog. It is not a bad comparison for Henry to respond to the pressure of the moment and, of course, it is possible to explain that in the face of any casting process the emotions, situations and sensations should be well prepared and worked to effectively transmit the performance to the jury and be able to leave winner.
