We have been watching the play Aladdin and the Lamp, the musical version of the La Bicycle Company, at the Sanpol Theater in Madrid. We remind you that this Theater is 30 years old and keeps intact its objective that children know classical theater plays specially adapted for them.
Aladdin and the lamp is a musical version taken from the story of The Thousand and One Nights. The play features the most prominent characters in the play, Aladdin, his mother, Princess Badrulbudur, the African vizier or magician, the King (father of the princess) and the Genie of the lamp. All the characters will delight the little ones and the elders. Some will like one more than the other although everyone performs a fantastic performance. To me I loved the vizier or African wizard. My daughter had a great time with the Genie of the lamp that also, every time she appeared on the stage attracted all the eyes of the little ones.
The bad guys fascinate me and in a live play I can see them in their role, doing their evil acts, taking the characters to the limit and finally being defeated and also doing everything great. Because the cheater vizier, played by Oscar Martínez Gil, plays a huge role in carrying the weight of the play and putting all the other characters in great difficulty.
All the actors give him a great replica, from the brave Aladdin, to the friendly Genius, through the playful King, the enamored princess and the loving mother always worried and looking for Aladdin's happiness.
The sets of the work contribute to move to the Far East and the rhythm of the work is thrilling with songs very well crafted, interpreted and integrated into the story.
