In Barcelona, no more public nursery places will be created

The crisis, the happy crisis, is making us pay, as always, just for sinners. Not only are healthcare being loaded, but education is also being loaded and we are gradually taking away the social benefits to which we were entitled because someone struggled hard to get them.

It is not that I consider that a nursery is part of the education that our children deserve as citizens, because as you know education is not obligatory until the age of six and everything that is before is something like a “prior”, so that the child I learned rules, concepts, to live and live with other children, etc (I basically talk about preschool).

However, since maternal and paternal leave are laughable and that child support is non-existent, the least that was left for families was the possibility of trying to reconcile work and family life by leaving children in public nurseries , which in Barcelona have decided to limit: public places that exist to date will continue to exist, but will no longer be offered.

The reason is that spending on public places has been considered by the top leaders as excessive, a “time bomb”, in Xavier Trias plabras.

Barcelona significantly increased the supply of public places for childcare in just ten years

In 2000, Barcelona had 2,400 public nursery places, which covered 20% of the demand. To solve the shortcomings new centers began to be built to the point of covering 52.7% of the demand. Speaking in figures, this course will run 92 municipal centers with 6,783 children under three years enrolled.

The previous governments made flag of this increase of places, explaining that thus they helped the education of a child, although it was not part of the compulsory education. Now it seems that education is in the background and the only thing that matters is money, because it has already been decided that no more public nursery places will be created.

The parents had to pay equally

Despite creating more public places year after year, these were not free for parents, who they had to pay 269 euros a month. Although for parents it is an amount that is not negligible, it only covers 26% of the cost of a daycare center.

It is for this reason that Catalan politicians have decided to stop trying to offer nurseries for all who ask for it and stop the increase in places.

Given the current situation of the economy is understood, but I say: we always pay the same (and that does not affect me, because I do not take the children to daycare).
