Bugaboo Donkey, video analysis

Two months ago we showed you an analysis of the BabyBjörn high chair for being different from the rest and today we wanted to do the same with a stroller that shows a very new concept: Bugaboo Donkey. It is a car that could be considered as "convertible" and that the brand calls as "Mono-Duo-Mono", because it has the ability to be destined for only one child or two, if we have twins or if we have two children. I personally did not know the stroller when I saw it for the first time and I confess that it left me very surprised by the possibilities it offers. For being Bugaboo and for being a special car we have decided to analyze in Babies and more he Bugaboo Donkey. Let's meet him a little more:

Bugaboo Donkey Mono

This is the initial version of the stroller, designed for only one child. On one side of the structure of the stroller we can put the child's seat or the carrycot, leaving on the other side space for a basket in which we can carry baby's things or shopping bags. This basket can accommodate what we want, provided it weighs no more than 5 kg.

This, added to the typical basket that we found under the stroller, between the wheels, makes we have a total of 15 kg to load as much as we want, which is not little. The lower basket is very accessible both in front and behind, something to thank for parents, which according to what strollers we have problems to put according to what things, simply because they do not enter through the space between the basket and the structure.

Reversible chair

The baby's seat or carrycot are reversible, being able to go in both directions of the march. The carrycot does not make sense to rotate it because that way we will not see the baby but the seat does, because there are children who at some times want to see us and who at other times prefer to see the world.

SUV and easy handling

I really liked the manageability of the stroller. It has a unique handlebar (attached), which makes it possible to carry it with one hand, something very practical when you have two children and you have to give it to the hand, for example.

In fact, The entire stroller is designed to be handled with one hand if necessary: the brake is on the foot and the buttons have memory. Thus, when it is necessary to press two buttons to do something, it is not necessary to press both at the same time, but one can be pressed with one hand and then press another with the same hand (when having memory the first one is pressed).

The wheels are large and inflatable, making them more cushioned the sinuosities of the terrain and carried more comfortably.

Dimensions

Although it seems very wide, it is 60 cm wide, which is the same as Bugaboo Cameleon measures in the widest parts. As the Donkey reaches those 60 cm in more areas it seems really wider and impracticable, but it really isn't.

However, it is true that when you take it you have the feeling that you are carrying a bigger car than you would like and it gives you the feeling that there is plenty of space: if you think about the habitability of the baby the stroller could be much thinner if it didn't have the side basket.

However, this stroller is not thinking for parents with only one child who do not plan to have more, but for those who plan to have another in a short space of time or for those who are directly going to have twins or twins.

This is what makes, if you have only one child, think that "OK, I think it's great, but when the new baby comes, the good will come" (and all this saying, again, that it is not wider than the Cameleon)

Bugaboo Donkey Duo

With only 4 movements we can convert a stroller for a single child into a double stroller. We take out the side basket, widen the structure and get space to put a second chair or a carrycot.

In this way we can take two children of different ages in the same stroller being able to see them both and talk to both at the same time.

In the Duo mode, the stroller starts measuring 74 cm, a very contained measure for two babies, which does the thinnest double stroller within the range of luxury strollers.

Bugaboo Donkey Twin

It is the same as the Duo, but designed for two twin babies, so it carries two carrycot. In this mode, logically, we lose the lateral basket with respect to the Monkey to widen it and accommodate the second carrycot. If at any time we are going to take only one child, we can remove one of the carrycot or chairs and make it from a place, making it more comfortable to carry. This is something that double strollers cannot do.

Little friend of the cars

Bugaboo doesn't have a car seat, so It is not possible to buy the typical element that serves both to take the child in the car and to make a stroller. However, adapters can be purchased that can be attached to the structure of the Donkey to place the seats (which we all know as "maxi-cosi"), of some brands.

Bugaboo Donkey Price

It is a Bugaboo stroller, which is a brand that takes great care of its designs and is intended for a fairly select audience. In other words: it's a luxury stroller. For this reason the Bugaboo Donkey Mono costs 1,089 euros, the Donkey Duo 1,339 euros and the Donkey Twin 1,489 euros.

Summarizing

We liked the design of the stroller, its exclusivity, the ease of handling and the possibility of using it with only one child or with two. The grace of the stroller is precisely that, that you can have it when you have a child and that you can continue using it when you have the second one for both of you, without buying a second stroller.

Now, between one and the other it may not be long, because the chair is not too big and a two and a half year old child may go a little fair (my son Aran is that age, but he is small and thin and although in the seat fits well you could say that in a few months it will no longer fit).

We did not like that there is no possibility to buy a car seat for Bugaboo, with the same colors and style as the rest of the elements (car seat and carrycot), because that means having to buy one of another brand just for the car and an adapter if we also want to be able to carry it in the structure of the stroller (two if we have twins).

We also did not like the folding to keep it in the car, although it is logical that it is not wonderful because it is a convertible stroller whose width can not be less than 60 (for that reason, because within 60 there are the 14 cm that wins the widen it). Not being able to fold wide can only vary high and does not do much, so it is quite large, not leaving too much space in the trunk for anything else. If you have two children nothing happens, the logical thing is that this happens, but if you only have one the thing changes because it compares with other simple strollers, something that It's not quite fair, because the Donkey is a simple one that in the future, when you have a second child, it's double.

Delta Awards 2011

He Bugaboo Donkey won the award last week Silver Delta, a recognition of the design of the stroller and the good work of the company, which has spent years studying the needs of families to respond with their products.
