The Government will approve free abortion up to three and a half months

Tomorrow the report of the Committee of Experts of the government which will serve as the basis for the new law of abortion that includes free abortion up to three and a half months (between 12 and 14 weeks of gestation).

The working group that was formed in September last year has carried out an exhaustive review of international legislation regarding Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy (IVE) to make this determination.

The report adds the possibility of abortion up to 22 weeks in case of "serious danger to the life or health of the pregnant woman and serious physical or psychological abnormalities in the fetus." In relation to the 12-14 week period that will be approved, sources from the Committee of Experts comment that the abortion will be free because at that time "there are no risks from the medical point of view and because It is the most used formula in the rest of Europe".

The voluntary termination of pregnancy should be "a public health benefit" that can be practiced both in a public hospital and in a concerted center.

The text has been supported by the PSOE, ERC, IU, ICV, BNG and Na-Bai and has had the rejection of the PP and the abstention of the PNV. For its part, CiU has not positioned itself by having different visions on this subject within its formation.

A few months ago, after the report of the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs, we were commenting on Babies and more abortion figures in Spain and we saw that in 2006 More than 100,000 women underwent an abortion.

As always when something that is "restricted" is released (between the quilt because the law was made, the trap was made), this measure is the beginning of a debate about whether the numbers will increase now that abortion will become part of the service portfolio of Social Security in a free way.
