Although we are still far from what would be desirable in terms of paternity leave, we can talk about a small step forward in Spain.
As Lola announced some time ago, parents of large families, single parents and those in which there is a member with a disability can enjoy, a 20 day permit.
The measure took effect yesterday, which means 5 days more than the rest of the parents. Surely for all the beneficiaries it will be a very valuable time after birth or adoption of your child.
The rule states that this time will be extended to 22 days for each child from the second in the case of multiple births or in the case that the child is born with a disability.
This measure was approved at the beginning of November in the Congress of Deputies, after an agreement between the PSOE and CiU that was later supported by the rest of the parliamentary groups. Social Security will bear the costs of this measure, which therefore will not have costs for companies, although many of them are still reluctant to accept parental leave normally.
We will see if, as the PSOE committed in its electoral program, the time for all parents rises during this term until four weeks.
