Squatting

I can tell you that my first birth was not easy, so preparing for the second I searched for information on the best way to give birth.

I have found advocates of squatting, which in my opinion I think is the most natural position to give birth. If we look at the illustrations of childbirth in ancient times we can see that in the majority the parturients are in an upright position, almost always with a person who holds them from behind surrounding them with their arms. Today in indigenous communities women continue to give birth in this way.

In Western civilization, with the entry of the obstetrician into labor, women were placed in a horizontal position in increasingly specific beds, with their legs wide open so that the genital region can be well observed. This is how they work until today in most hospitals. For some there is no suitable birth position: it depends on each woman and each moment. However, more advantages have been found in the vertical position, among them the following stand out: the use of gravity, the pelvic outlet opens to its maximum capacity (1 to 2 cm), may require less bidding, can improve the baby's rotation and his descent into a difficult birth; although some see the pressure exerted by the head of the fetus on the pelvis, causing tears in the area of the perineum.

Particularly I would like to give birth in the position that I felt most comfortable. That should be the goal of good medical care: to offer a delivery environment where the woman can concentrate on what her body asks. Soon I will begin the course of childbirth preparation, I will tell my midwife, meanwhile I would like to know what you think about this. Did you have the opportunity to squat? To move freely? What was your birth experience?
