The twins Mason and Hawk Buchmeyer lived nine months in their mother's womb, but unfortunately they shared very little time together after birth. They arrived in the world on August 18 in Florida, but immediately one of them, Hawk, began to experience serious problems due to a congenital disease called diaphragmatic hernia.
The photo was taken eleven days after birth, it was the first time they touched after being born and probably also the goodbye hug, since a few days after posting it on their Facebook profile, parents announced that his little boy had passed away.
From the moment of birth, parents were sharing on Facebook the day to day of the twins, the care of little Hawk and the difficulties he has been going through. They received thousands of samples of love and support from strangers who were sensitized with their history.
Diaphragmatic hernia is a congenital anomaly in which there is an abnormal opening in the diaphragm, the muscle between the chest and the abdomen that helps you breathe. More than half of babies with this condition survive, but the complications in Hawk have made it impossible for me to overcome it.
Being admitted to intensive care, eleven days after birth, one of the nurses suggested that the mother put Mason, who was very restless, on top of her brother Hawk. Putting them together, Mason held on to his brother and smiled., as if he knew all the support he needed at the time.
An unfair ending
Yesterday the parents announced the sad news of death of one of his twins:
Our hearts are sad this morning because our sweet little man has been called home to be with Jesus. He left with a lot of peace and we know that he is no longer suffering. Please give us some time to cry and try to start the recovery process
