More baby items recalled: brooches and chains for pacifiers

We talked a few weeks ago about the withdrawal of several baby carrier bags and pacifiers, and again we have to talk about other children's items banned by the Spanish Health and Consumer authorities.

The withdrawal of the shopping centers of several models of chains and snaps, for risk of suffocation. The pieces have been included in the insecure products alert network, which is coordinated by the National Consumer Institute, after being detected by the Junta de Andalucía and the Community of Madrid.

To the pacifiers that we mentioned recently (Bebisana, reference 407, lot 03/2007; Vidal, reference 354, lot 02/2007; and Saro, reference 4571) are added chains and brooches of several models.

These are products that break easily, generating small parts, which implies a risk of suffocation due to the possibility that the small ones will introduce them in the mouth.

They belong to the brands Bebisana (chain with pacifier reference 704) and Selecta Spielzeug (brooch model 1387). Also in a pacifier and tweezers clasp of the Suavinex brand (reference 220939), the chain is easily separated from the fixator and in addition it presents a form that can cause vomiting.

Another brooch with chain, this time of the Puppi brand (reference 21CM / 04-07), also presents choking hazard.

Likewise, the commercialization of a Carrefour brand pacifier chain, Tex-Baby model, has been prohibited due to the risk of finger entrapment, since the clothing fastener has accessible holes and asficia, since it does not meet the minimum ventilation requirements .

To the danger detected in all these products adds an additional problem, and it is the difficulty to locate these objects due to high number of establishments that sell them. In addition, according to FACUA, the "deficit number of inspectors" that the autonomous communities have is added.

All this seems alarming and embarrassing, since we are talking about very important safety issues and risks. But perhaps the first approach is how these defective products reach the market. There should be more controls before reaching this situation, don't you think?
