How much dermatitis affects children

Cases of children with atopic dermatitis increase, now the figures show us that one in three children under 5 years old suffers from this problem, although surely the figures will be higher, since the data presented to us by the Spanish Society of Allergology correspond to the year 2005.

Skin problems proliferate and different factors are related to it, substances found in food or environmental conditions are the main causes. In Spain we can find four communities with a higher risk of babies suffering from this disease, Cantabria, Andalusia, Catalonia and Castilla León.

What is more curious is that the proliferation of the problem has genetic roots, so it is usually received through genetic inheritance, up to 80% of those who suffer from allergic problems such as atopic dermatitis or bronchial asthma among others, are given by the hereditary conditioner. This would indicate that external, chemical or environmental factors are responsible for activating the genetic load and it is not surprising given the proliferation of pollution, climate change or the new substances used in food without having been thoroughly studied the effects they can produce. We take for example a reference for these words, a report prepared by Adena in which it is shown that a large number of toxic substances have been detected in European foods.

The problem is growing, so it is very important to make an early detection of the problem, as a quick treatment can minimize the consequences. Keep in mind that in the future, children suffering from atopic dermatitis may suffer more severe problems such as asthma or rhinitis, since all these diseases have similar characteristics in their genetic basis. Since atopic dermatitis may be the prelude to other more severe pathologies, it is convenient that at the first signs pediatric services be used to receive appropriate treatment.
