Gay love, a theme that until then has not been touched on animation

Last year, Esteban Bravo and Beth David, two animation students at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Florida, decided to do their university thesis together and they created a short cartoon about a gay love story between two teenage students, a theme that until then has not been represented in the field of animation.

They funded their thesis thanks to a crowdfunding campaign and they released the trailer of the movie in the month of May, making it coincide with the World Day Against Homophobia. In a short time, the trailer went viral through social networks, anticipating the future success of the short film.

"For us, this film is not only the culmination of our four years of education and work at the university, but also the expression of a subject that has not been explored in computer animation. It is a film that treats a real and personal theme in a very sweet and cheerful way and we are excited to share it with everyone "- expressed the creators through the crowdfunding page.

On July 31, the short film was released on Vimeo and YouTube, and in a single day it reached two and a half million visits, exciting all the spectators.

The movie, that has no dialoguesIt lasts four minutes and innocently, freshly and beautifully narrates the uncontrollable love that a teenage boy feels towards his classmate, and how his heart sets the pace for the entire short film.

"With" In a Heartbeat "we wanted to challenge the preconceived idea that LGBT content is not appropriate or suitable for younger audiences" - said Esteban Bravo in this interview with NBC.

Although its creators admit that have received some criticism through its Facebook page, the vast majority of the public has welcomed this short film with great emotion what it shows, according to the words of its creators "that there is an audience ready and prepared to see this type of content".

After watching the short film "In a Heartbeat", I can say that we are facing a beautiful teenage love story that children will see without prejudice or taboos. A story of universal emotions and feelings that we all understand, but that manages to include in a masterful and unique way so far, the LGBT teen collective.

"It is obvious that the LGBT collective is the protagonist of the story, but ultimately it is a love story that almost everyone has ever experienced and can understand" - affirm its creators.
