The ball really relieves pain in childbirth

We have talked about the use of labor dilation balls, which are nothing other than the so-called "Swiss balls" that are used to execute. So far its use is not widespread and although many women report that it relieves pain we have not confirmed that it happened in a statistically confirmable way.

But now several midwives of the Cabueñes Hospital have explained with a study they have done. In this hospital there were several dilation balls that were sometimes made available to the parturients, who sitting on them can feel relief from the pain of contractions.

In the study carried out by three midwives Sofía Méndez, Javier González and Helena Casquero, there were 82 women treated in the service, all of them arriving in the first phase of labor and who expressed enough pain to make use of the ball without epidural or before of your application

They did not explain the supposed benefits of the ball, to avoid the placebo effect, and were recording their painful impressions both when they were lying in bed and when they had been on the ball for 15 minutes. The pain was less on the ball, especially in cases of spontaneous birth, with no differentiating data on aspects of another type, including social or cultural.

That is, use the expansion ball It reduced between 15 and 30% the painful sensations of women in childbirth, which they have considered clearly significant, encouraging any parturient who can benefit from it from now on.
